It is important to develop interventions to alleviate symptoms, Health promotion behaviors may prove useful in alleviating symptoms. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education based on empowerment model on health promotion behaviors in the menopautic women in Zarandieh. Materials and Methods: In this random quasi-experimental control study, samples were 90 menopautic women that were covered by Health Center of Zarandieh and were randomly allocated to case and control groups (45 in each). Data gathering instrument was a questionnaire based on empowerment model on Health promotion behaviors. According to the data obtained of pre-test, the educational intervention was designed and performed for test group. Three months after the intervention, the post test was performed using just primary questionnaire and data were then analyzed with χ2 and t-tests. Results: Findings showed that after intervention, mean scores of empowerment model constructs (knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, self-esteem) and health promotion behaviors showed significant difference in case group related to control group (p < 0.05). Also a statistically significant positive correlation was found between health promotion behaviors and all empowerment model constructs. Conclusion: Planning and implementation of health education intervention based on empowerment model have positive effect on health promotion behaviors. Thus, it is recommended to use this model in design of health education programs.
