A study on the knowledge of general practitioners about the charter of patients’ rights

Abstract

Background and Objective: The charter of patients’ rights has designed to support medical care to patients without any discrimination. It is very effective way for facilitation of patients and health care provider relationship. The aim of this study was to determine general practitioners’ awareness about charter of patients’ rights. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive analytical study. In this study, 351 general practitioners were selected by non-random sampling (converience) method and data were collected by questionnaires and analyzed with t-test, ANOVA and spearman correlation test. Statistical software was SPSS. Results :The mean age was 39.9 ± 8.33 years and the proportion of males and females were 59% and 41% respectively .The findings indicated that physicians had a moderate level of awareness regarding charter of patients’ rights and significant correlation between knowledge score and job experience (p < 0.01, r = 0.3). Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that general practitioners had inadequate knowledge about charter of patients’ rights and need special plans for solving that problem.
